Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is looking to dip its toes into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The new project, dubbed the Space Key - is a work of art that was made in collaboration with an artist who is not known. The NFT is a unique piece of digital art that is accessed through a QR code. The project is limited to five pieces and will be auctioned off in the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made of a carbon composite material that Lamborghini, in the course of a research project in 2019, sent to the International Space Station. After returning to earth the carbon fiber was crafted into this unique artwork. The physical element is imprinted with an NFT serial number which ties to the digital artwork with QR codes on the back.

NFTs for those not familiar are unique identifiers which are stored on a distributed ledger of the blockchain and connected to a digital asset, such as a photo, video, song or other recording. This allows owners to verify the authenticity, scarcity, and tracking of their tokens across the internet.

Working with NFT PRO which is a white-label NFT solution for companies, Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art to a new level. In the coming weeks, Lamborghini will share details about this exciting venture. This will include the names of the unknown artists and a timetable for auction.

The physical component of the Space Key

In the wake of numerous social media posts teasing something related to space, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has entered the world of tokens that aren't fungible (NFT) with a unique project dubbed Space Key. The NFT was created in collaboration with an unknown artist and will be auctioned in a few short weeks. Its base is comprised of an advanced carbon fibre composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research program. Carbon fiber was 3D-printed for the base of each Space Key. Each Space Key is connected to a unique, digital image via QR codes. Only five Space Keys have been produced.

NFTs are unique identifiers that are recorded on distributed ledgers such the Blockchain and tied to a digital asset like pictures. They're a hot topic among people with more money than sense and it was only an issue of time before an automaker decided to cash in on the trend.

Space Key consists of five units. It was constructed with a physical part of carbon fiber composite, which was sent to the ISS in the year 2019. Each NFT will be equipped with a QR code that links it to an exclusive digital artwork created by the same artist. In the coming weeks and days, more information will be revealed including the name and digital artwork of the artist as well as how to purchase one of the five Space Keys.

The digital artwork

After weeks of social media posts hinting at it, the luxury car maker Lamborghini finally revealed its first initiative for tokens that are non-fungible (NFT). Called the Space Key, it consists of five physical items that unlock an exclusive digital artwork created by the unidentified artist. Developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm) The 'collector's piece' is limited to only five units and will be auctioned off shortly.

At the center of each Space Key is a block made of a high-tech carbon fire composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. After returning to Earth the space key was made into a QR code that links it to the digital element of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that takes place at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Each of five images was shot by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner employed an inflatable camera fitted with lenses to capture the individual images, which were then added to the final picture. The result is an out-of-this world photo that captures the beauty of the Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic look of the car rising away from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off soon, but the exact date and location of the auction haven't yet been confirmed yet.

The auction

Lamborghini the premium automaker, has entered the world non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with the slogan "to the moon". The project was developed in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm). The Space Key Space Key is an NFT that is made up of composite carbon fiber material which was transported to the International Space Station for research purposes in the year 2019. The auctions, which will occur between February 1 through February 4, last for 75 hours and 50 minutes - the same amount of time it took for Apollo 11 to leave Earth and enter the lunar orbit. By enrolling online, you'll be able to bid on five NFTs. Each one will be auctioned by itself and the winner will be awarded a digital image designed by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner, which captures the five distinct moments the Space Key passed during its flight in space.
